When you purchase a property as your principal residence, you may be eligible to receive an exemption that limits the increase in taxable assessments each year to a fixed percentage. This is known as the Maryland Homestead Property Tax Credit.

How to Apply:
Maryland requires all homeowners to submit a one-time application to establish eligibility for the Homestead Property Tax Credit. Applications must be filed by the May 1 preceding the first tax year for which the credit is to be applied. You can apply:

• By requesting an application at 410-767-2165,

or email: sdat.homestead@maryland.gov
• Print a PDF copy of the application from the
SDAT website
• Fax the completed application to the
Department at 410-225-9344.
• Mail the application to: Department of Assessments and Taxation Homestead Tax Credit Division
